1.1-Activty 4 How email works and exchange in email.

Email and how it Works:

Email works as long as you have email software on your computer or a web-based email. All that you need is an e-mail server for the client to connect to. This diagram below is the simplest possible email software. Machines that are on the internet can run software applications that act as servers. There are many different servers running on millions of machines right now.
There are many different text files one for each person. When you click the send button the domain name is stripped of then that email server is contacted, then your email is added to the end of the appropriate text file. When someone goes and check there email, the email program copies the file and the server file is cleared.
The message is usually composed in an editing window or frame within the mail client, it can either be text based but can now also be HTML based. Messages are usually sent using an SMTP server (simple mail transfer server) and received using a POP3 (post office protocol-port) or an IMAP (internet email access protocol port) server.
To receive mail the person will connect to there server and if a person wishes to send mail it will all be passed to …….. , which will pass it on to the appropriate server.
